Biographies of our Principals

Gregg Dearth
is an advertising professional with over 30 years of experience working for such industry leaders as J. Walter Thompson, Leo Burnett, BBDO, and Marsteller. He was among the first to recognize the marketing potential of the Internet. Before there was a world wide web, he conceived the first sweepstakes ever held on the Internet, in order to capture some of the first demographic data on Internet users. This led to the some of the first advertising ever sold on the Internet. All for the 3rd commercial site ever hosted on the Internet—Enews.com.  In addition, he helped create Claus.com, one of the earliest Christmas sites on the web. And has contributed to the development of numerous corporate advertising campaigns and websites for Fortune 500 companies. His experience in lead generation and web marketing for trade schools has led him to co-found Interim Step Marketing, LLC together with a team of distinguished industry professionals. He is an Honors in Writing graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
 
Jeffrey Dearth has wide experience in traditional publishing and new media. He was president and COO of the Magazine Group of Mecklermedia Corp., and founder and CEO of The Electronic Newsstand, LLC (Enews.com). The latter was one of the first successful e-commerce Internet ventures. In the magazine sphere, he was president and publisher of The New Republic, where he also helped guide the successful launch and subsequent sale of The Journal of NIH Research.  Jeff spent three years with Smithsonian magazine where he was instrumental in the creation of Air & Space magazine and seven years with Time magazine in New York, London, Amsterdam and Paris. He has been a member of the board of the Magazine Publishers of America, serving on its new media and small magazine advisory committees. Jeff sits on the board of several new media companies and has been a featured speaker at numerous publishing and new media conferences. He is a partner in the media investment banking firm Desilva and Phillips, co-founder of Interim Step Marketing and primary advisor for sales and sponsor affiliations. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, where he was a Morehead Scholar. 
 
Monica Denham in her early career gained extensive experience in sales, sales support and customer service. As an export sales representative for Kopex Ltd, she helped present new product lines to distributors and customers throughout Europe, in their own language. For Chipcom Europe she developed sales and marketing materials supporting her role as customer service representative for Scandinavia, South Africa and France. As a financial controller for Martec Europe, she kept key accounts happy by maintaining order between accountants and auditors, handling all payroll and tax routines, and streamlining internal financial operations. This disciplined background in customer experience and company fulfillment was excellent preparation for her current role as Interim Step Marketing’s Website Designer and co-founder. Skilled in FrontPage, Dreamweaver, Javascript, Photoshop and Swish, Monica brings a balance of technical ability and artistic sensitivity to her work. As a website designer, she always places the visitor’s perspective first. She holds both a certificate and diploma in Web Page Design, and currently, Monica is completing work for her Bachelor of Arts.
 
Scott Wallace began his career in marketing consulting, and marketing research, before becoming a product manager at ConAgra. Subsequent positions have included: President of the Consumer Products Division of ConAgra Foods, Executive Vice President of Brown & Williamson, Executive Vice President of Coca-Cola Foods, and Executive Vice President of Hormel Foods. In each of these positions, Scott was responsible for launching new products and line extensions that achieved significant consumer acceptance and commercial success. Scott has also founded and sold several businesses including Noetic Resources (syndicated marketing programs for not-for-profit hospitals) and Cyber Software Corporation (software for marketing management, with a specialty in managing cooperative merchandising funds, and software for risk analysis and hedging strategies for commodities traders).
Another one of Interim Step Marketing's co-founders, he currently provides strategic counsel and guides all activities in market research and analysis. Scott was educated at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago.
